Inspiration can be found everywhere. Sometimes something in my life inspires me. Sometimes I'm inspired by other people's works. Sometimes something as simple as something I observe in nature inspires me. Books, paintings, music, history, the flowers, animals, the sun, the moon, other people, faith...I glean inspiration from various sources.

She walked along the lane to her home on a crisp autumn night when she was suddenly grasped from behind, her scream cut off by a tangy-smelling cloth to her mouth and nose that caused her vision to blur until she saw no more. When she awoke, it was to total darkness, and as she reached out and found herself boxed in on all sides, the dawning realization that she was enclosed alive in a coffin crept in on her until claustrophobia set in, causing her to panic and hyperventilate.

My favorite books are those that have anything to do with the tale of "The Phantom of the Opera." Ever since I discovered the classic tale as an innocent and naive 16-year-old girl, I've been enchanted with it. The plight of the infamous Phantom and his tragically misplaced love pulls at my heart like no other story has ever done. I enjoy reading continuations of the tale, re-tellings of it and even historical accounts of events that actually took place in or around the Paris Garnier during that Victorian age.
However, I also enjoy reading Christian fiction works, most notably those by Kristen Heitzmann. I also historical romance novels. Of course, I also enjoy the occasional biography or classic as well as poetry, and Christian nonfiction is a must to soothe my soul. As you can see, my reading preferences are quite eclectic. Lol.

My best advice to aspiring writers is to just do it. Write. Just like you have to practice doing anything else to become good at it, so must you practice writing if you want to be a writer. Hone your craft. The more you write, the better you'll become at it. If you never write anything, then you won't have a chance to grow as a writer.

For me, the best part is being able to create a world into which other people can escape. To know that you've brought a sense of adventure or happiness to your readers, if even for just a little while, is something really special. Readers get to know your characters; they fall in love with them and to know that you've provided them with something like that gives you a feeling that is unparalleled.

Very rarely do I suffer from the dreaded writer's block. However, in those rare instances when I do, I have found it best to simply "step away," so to speak, from whatever I'm working on. I might put the work that's giving me trouble aside and work on another piece of writing, or I might refrain from writing altogether and engage in a bit of reading, music listening, or television watching. Then, when I return to my writing, I'm usually able to view it from a new perspective.

Erik (the Phantom) and Christine from "The Phantom of the Opera." To me, the tale of "The Phantom of the Opera" is the most romantic, yet tragic, one ever told. I believe Erik and Christine had the truest kind of love forged through their souls since they both fell in love with one another through their voices before they ever met physically. (Unfortunately, we know how it all ended when Christine came face to face with her Angel (and if you don't, I certainly won't spoil your reading experience), however, but still, they remain my favorite fictional couple.)
