This past summer I was too busy putting the finishing touches on my novel to get much reading done. I have been making up for it these past few weeks. I just finished 'Orphia and Eurydicius', which I thoroughly enjoyed for its elegance and poetry.

I've never been very good a horror, but I'll give it a try.
She never saw the knife coming for her and before she could scream he had thrown her into a pot. The last thing she remembered was the searing, agonizing pain of her flesh peeling from her bones.

Hmmm. This is a tough one. There are three book worlds I would love to visit. JRR Tolkien's Middle earth, where I would marry an elf. Narnia, where I would walk with Aslan and Jasper Fforde's wonderful Book Patrol Agency from the Tuesday Next series, which actually, now that I think about it would allow me to visit any book world I wanted to see. So, I guess that's the answer.

Ha! If I were to answer this question I would have two less books to write. You will have to wait and see.

I take long walks and the ideas usually come to me, or I sleep on it.

Connecting with readers.
There are all types of books - those that provoke deep thought or expose universal truths we hadn't noticed, those that entertain, those that excite emotions and those that do all of the above.
I'm just happy if by books can give my readers a chance to unwind and relax.
I write so that I can breathe.

1. Write. Write. Write. Do not seek perfection in your first draft. Just get the story committed to paper. Once you have, you can go back and work on it.
2. Edit. edit. edit. Paragraph by paragraph, Line by Line. Word by word. But do not do this on your own. I think a writer should only do one or two edits on their oen.
3. Share your writing with others. If possible build a community. I took a writing class to help me get through my third book because I was trying something entirely new and I needed feedback. Peer reviews really help strengthen writing.

ooh! I love this question because my next book is the one that is closest to my heart. I am writing a piece which is part historical fiction, part finctional memoir to give voice to the most powerful woman of the middle ages, Matilde of Canossa. In 1086 Matilde had this words committed to paper, "I do not need any man to tell me what to do" She brought the Holy Roman Empire to its knees and held the church in the palm of her hands and reigned for FORTY years. This is a piece of herstory that I am extremely invested in. It has been simmering for over ten years now and I am excited that it is almost ready. I hope to publish sometime in 2025

Good question. Just about anything can spark an idea. Yesterday on a walk, I must have jotted down at least five good ideas for novels. Not all of them will get written because there just aren't enough hours in a day. I think the topics I am most passionate about are: discrimination, alienation, empowerment and identity. I am fascinated with explorations of motivation and character and most of my writing is dialogue-driven.

The idea for writing The Watsons:Emma came to me while reading the incomplete manuscript The Watsons by Jane Austen. At the beginning of the novel, we are introduced to Emma as the neighborhood sees her for the first time.
“Her skin was very brown, but clear, smooth, and glowing –“ Jane Austen, The Watsons
Word choice for an author is extremely important. We slave over each, and every word, asking ourselves is this what we really want to say? In this short text two words jumped out at me: skin and very
Skin. Skin is not the same thing as complexion. A complexion is mutable. A fair person exposed to the sun becomes darker, an ill person might take on a sickly or jaundiced hue. Skin is the outer layer of our body, and we are born into it.
Very. Very is an adverb used to emphasize the adjective. It means “To a high degree” Emma’s skin was not dark, it was not brown. It was very brown.
With the notion that Emma Watson was mixed race, the story unfolded naturally. I have written a series of posts on the topic that you can find with the hastag #TheWatsonsEmma.
