My recent book? A two-book set, "Wessex Tales", 40 stories in 2 books. I grew up in an English village with an extraordinary history. "Histories travel many paths but only one direction," one of my characters says. Millennia came, passed away, and left their tales behind them: in forms such as fortifications dug in chalk hills, grave barrows, standing stones, the Roman occupation, Viking raids, the Norman invasion, the Black Death and modern worlds that followed after. This land—my land—is mystical, dear to me, long trodden by passions, by ghosts. Thus my subtitle: “Eight thousand years in the life of an English village”, condensed into 40 stories.
