The best thing about being a writer is being to share what I've learned now that I'm no longer teaching. It's a way to express myself that I've relied on my entire life with journals. Now I'm doing it with books! I'm currently blogging about "My Weird Indy Publishing Project," applying to a non-fiction (memoir) series what I've learned from sci-fi writers about marketing. The project is "weird" because no one has done this before and marketing a memoir is next to impossible unless you're famous. I'm not.

Writer's block usually means I'm not really in love with the project I'm doing or that I have ambivalent feelings about it. When it (the block) happens, I ask myself "Why are you writing this?" and the answer should be in a single sentence, an elevator pitch kind of thing. If I can't do that, I know I'm not clear and anything I do write will be without focus. I get clear by doing something else -- like house-cleaning!

What really killed my nemesis?
In BURNOUT -- How a Desert Lizard Restored My Faith ( Book 1 of my Burnout to Bliss Series, non-fiction) I briefly related the story about how my best friend betrayed me when she became department chairman.
Many years later, her death by "unknown causes" became the topic of the day -- in grocery stores, the post office, and everywhere else in this small town.

Two projects are calling--a memoir about a nearly two-year walkabout that changed my life and a young adult book about a girl with powers.
LOL! That changed the minute I started writing about that personal spiritual journey (walkabout). As described in the "Afterword" of BURNOUT, while I was writing that story, I was guided to do it...differently.
And, instead of one long book, the story of my two-year journey is now showing up as the Burnout to Bliss series.
Book 1, BURNOUT -- How a Desert Lizard Restored My Faith, was published in November 2016. Book 2, CYCLING in the CITY -- How I Got My Confidence Back was published March 2017 and is a radically different way of writing than Book 1.
I had almost finished Book 3, about the concept of "surrender" -- letting go of "having to know what I'm doing" and "being in control" and allowing Spirit or Intuition to guide me, instead -- when I was stopped again! Now I'm really interested to see where it will go!
Meanwhile, I'm catching up on LIFE: managing the triplex I live in with the early spring and the shift of tenants, and "clearing my clutter" -- "getting ready to move in an instant" while having no idea whatsoever where I'll be moving.
"Life is rich and full of wonder -- always, in all ways." Ann Parrott-Patchett

My last book was Rethinking the Law of Attraction. I had just completed a Masters in Metaphysics about the spiritual law of attraction and was suddenly more conscious of how many people, especially in this rural mountain town, were talking about it--like seeing the VW everywhere once you've decided to buy one.
