Well, a neighbor of my grandmother once gave her some old Edwardian postcards for me to play with. There was one with the hands burnt out and on the back it was written, her hands were burned. Well, my friend and I came up with plot after plot about the mystery of the card and why her hands were burnt on both the card and in the writing. While not exactly 'from my life' I do remember that incident specifically.

Catherine and Heathcliff because they're so right for each other and yet because of their own stupidity, they never really find each other. The reader gets to 'see' their mistake and apply it to real life by asking, am I really doing the right thing?

I got my idea from two main sources. One, my reading of Chinese history and also travelers accounts from the Victorian age. Two, from the classic Victorian novels dealing with the sufferings of orphans.
