Susan Fish I'm working on a novel about a woman who looks back to a fairy tale childhood--until one day she is able to look ahead.
Susan Fish This is a tough one. For me, it's less the actual couples and more the process of the characters falling in love that gets me. If I have to choose, my answer surprises me: Elizabeth and Darcy in Pride and Prejudice. I'm not a Janeite but these two are better together than apart, and I love how they come together.
Susan Fish Write. And read. Repeat. (I'm not actually kidding.) Write because you have a story to tell. Let go of delusions of Being A Writer and all the glamour you think might come with that--and just write and read and write.
Susan Fish Getting to tell stories. Figuring out what happens next. Being able to play with words. Making something beautiful.
Susan Fish A wise writer friend once told me: follow the energy. When I get stuck, I figure out what part of the work I feel interested in, eager to write about--and I start there. Another aspect of dealing with writer's block is becoming willing to write very badly. Sometimes I do something that feeds my creativity or I work on something completely different just for fun.
