Philip Harris There wasn't really anything specific. I was letting my mind wander one day and the image of a husband watching a count of nanobots in his injured wife came to me. It seemed like a very interesting idea but it wasn't a story. I needed to know why she was being healed by nanobots.

Without going into spoiler territory I quickly came up with how she'd been hurt. From there it was a case of finding an interesting why. I pictured the couple as explorers on Mars and then the rest kind of rolled out from there as I was outlining the story.

That initial image was the anchor though and I'm pleased with how it came out.

I am thinking of writing a followup to The Girl in the City, yes. It's tentatively titled The Girl in the Wilderness and follows on directly from the end of the first book.

I don't know when I'm going to write it yet but a lot of people seem to want to read more about Leah so I'm sure I'll revisit that world soon.
