I got the idea for the Dragon Blades when I was thinking about what a dragon egg would be like. What would the shell be made of? What properties would it have? Would the shards be of any use or value?
So, I was thinking about this tough, durable, mineralized material, and it occurred to me that both our earliest and our most modern blades have been made out of stone and ceramic materials, and that led to the thought about how cool it would be to have a custom blade made from a dragon's egg...
Sadly, I don't have any illustrations of them, but they are described in a fair amount of detail in the books if any of you artists out there want to remedy that situation. (Subtle hint)
