Shelly Jarvis Getting lost in a world inside my own head and watching as the people there come alive.
Shelly Jarvis Inspiration can come from anything, but most of my ideas come from dreams. I would say I dream at least half the ideas for my novels. The rest come from asking What If questions that lead me down a path for answers.

The inspiration to continue writing is somewhat different. It comes from my love of the written word, my excitement after reading someone else's work and the buzz of living in a different world for awhile, or sometimes just from people watching. Creating stories is a natural part of being human, and it is the part I most treasure.
Shelly Jarvis My most recent book is about a YA romantic fantasy involving mermaids, sirens, and humans. The idea for the book came while I was driving to my day job and I heard a song called "Whatever Lola Wants." I kept imagining this being sung by a Siren and how those around would react to her. The novel developed into something far different than I initially thought, but that image of a Siren working the room is still what I associate with this book.
Shelly Jarvis A fantasy novel based from a legend in my second YA book, The Ninth Door.
Shelly Jarvis Write as often as you can. You will have slumps and there will be days when writing seems like the worst thing you could do, but those are the days when you most need to write. Don't let anyone tell you it is impossible, especially yourself.
Shelly Jarvis Go somewhere you can truly be away from distractions. For me, it is a restaurant without internet where the waitress brings me a pot of coffee when she sees me come in. I sit in a booth away from everything and just start typing until I find my groove.
