I think I would go to Tudor London (as long as I was immune to all the diseases then prevalent!)
It would be fascinating to observe Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn, and the rest of his courtiers, as I have written about his early kingship, so it would be great if I could find if I'd got it right.

It has to be Dalziel & Pascoe. Dalziel is such a marvellous character he leaps off the pages: he's boorish and bolshie, but funny with it. And he's a great cop!

I'm very interested in history, so archaeology is a natural follow-on. It was just a matter of time before I introduced history (of some limited sort) into my mysteries. I thought it would be intriguing to have a body found on a dig in the UK that WASN'T a Centurian or Ancient Briton, then I just had to think of how he got there.

It's my living, so I'd better be inspired! That's not as facetious an answer as it sounds, BTW. I'm professional in my attitude to writing, so I can't wait for inspiration. Instead, I ask those famous questions of my characters: Who, what, when, where and why (I think I've remembered the right order), which is, more or less, a straight quote from Rudyard Kipling, a British writer of The Jungle Book, etc. Try asking those questions, and I think you'll be amazed how many ideas pop up.

#18 of my Rafferty & Llewellyn series, though I've put it on hold for a few weeks, as I grapple with the intricacies of Facebook Ads. Next I've promised to write #3 of my Casey & Catt series, so I really ought to get on with it!

I've answered more fully on my blog (http://geraldineevansbooks.com/advice... ignore the whirly thing at the top. It's supposed to be a slider of my book covers, only they don't! Still trying to figure out how I fix it).
I think to be noticed, particularly on Amazon, you need a body of work published, with great covers, a terrific blurb, and thoroughly edited.
You'll also find heaps of great advice on kboards.com/writerscafe. The vast majority of writers on the boards are indie writers, so you'll find advice on promotion, formatting, Kindle Unlimited and whether to go wide, or submit your book to other retailers, plus most other questions you could possibly ask. There are newbies on the board, too, so don't be shy. Just make sure you pose your question first in the search box, otherwise you risk the more crotchety indies being short and to the point (very).
PS I don't know when you asked your questions, but please accept my apologies if it was a while ago; I've only just discovered the little button to have your question pop up. There's so much stuff on goodreads that I quickly turn into a swivel-eyed mad woman, trying to take it all in!

Being free of the stranglehold of bosses! I've been a full-time writer since 2011, when I turned indie. But I've been writing since my twenties, and although having eighteen novels published traditionally, I could never afford to give up the day job. Freedom? It's wonderful!

I'm very fortunate, and have never suffered from it (touch wood!). But if I did, the acknowledged remedy is often to get away from the keyboard. Take the dog for a walk. Or, if you haven't got a dog, perhaps start on that pile of ironing; nothing would break the block faster (in my case, anyway. :) )
