Jay Cutts Hi, Richard. Thanks for offering to review. I really appreciate that.

I have two books. You can preview up to 5 chapters of each at cuttsbooks.wordpress.com. You can then decide which one would be more fun for you.

Good luck with your mystery. I'll look forward to checking it out!

Jay Cutts Hi, Richard. It's wonderful to hear from you. I recently finished Wil Deft and truly loved it even more than Sinnabar. I sort of wish I'd read it first. I felt that Wil Deft really approaches the status of a classic tale. Very complex. Very moving. A whole universe of intrigue and possibilities. I'll check out your other works. If you haven't already, I hope you will write true sequels to Wil Deft. I think you've invented a universe you can do wonderful things with! As for Terry Pratchett, I can't say that I've tried to emulate him but rather that my natural style leans in that direction and I hope I've capture human nature in a similarly light hearted way in my two novels - Death by Haggis and Annie Gomez and the Gigantic Foot of Doom. Thanks so much for writing to me. I'm inspired, impressed, and deeply intrigued by your writing.
Jay Cutts Good question. The Annie Gomez book came out of another assignment to write a young adult novel. It was up to me to come up with the story. The fact that this was so open ended made it challenging.

However, I just started with a group of kids and threw in alien invasion and the need to save humanity. The rest evolved from that.
Jay Cutts I write in a really hot room. Oh, wait. Inspired. Ok. The answer is "who knows". That's why it's inspiration. Something I see, something I think of. Observing a person. Wondering what would happen if...

Death by Haggis was written based on an "assignment." A friend and I decided to take turns writing parts of the story, a couple sentences at a time. He started and I simply followed his lead. That worked.

So if you're having trouble getting inspired, have someone give you an assignment. How you deal with the assignment will come from your own creativity.
Jay Cutts I'm currently working on a young adult sci fi novel. About half way done. The heroine is Annie Gomez. Tentative title: Annie Gomez - The Invasion of Planet P. You may wonder what the P stands for in Planet P. According to the inhabitants, it stands for "planet". They admit to not being terribly creative.
Jay Cutts Use deodorant. Oh, wait. Aspiring. Ok. Read a lot. Check out whether you have any stories to tell. I suppose some writers are successful writing formulaic stories but to me good writing comes from having something to convey. I don't mean a "moral" or "message". Just a story to tell.
Jay Cutts I'd say the best thing about being a writer is being able to write. People who are not writers do not, by definition, write. If they were to write, they would be writers. Does that answer the question?

Somewhat seriously, though, there are two best things: letting a story unfold and sharing it with others.
Jay Cutts I'm not often bothered by writer's block. If I give it a little time, an inspiration arrives, telling me what is going to happen next in a story.
