Michael Bronte Sometimes you have to force yourself to sit down and write something, even if you know you're not in the groove and whatever you write will have to be torn apart and revised several times. You don't have to be brilliant every time you sit down at the keyboard. You can be brilliant later, just get some words down.
Michael Bronte The challenge of getting seemingly a thousand disconnected events to come together to a logical climax at the end of your story is very difficult to do. I like the mental exercise.
Michael Bronte Hmmm. I'd say follow your instincts because there are a lot of unscrupulous people out there trying to take advantage of new authors. At least that's the way it was with me. But it's a new time in book publishing these days, and the dependence on agents and major publishers to get your work out there isn't as critical as it used to be. A determined author has the opportunity to get his work out-- if it's good. Most of those so-called experts didn't know their ass from their elbow anyway. You'll find out on your own if your stuff is any good.
Michael Bronte My latest idea is the story of a group of fraternity brothers meeting up for their 40th college reunion, and one of them turns up dead. The police rule it as an accidental death and won't investigate it as a homicide, so the brothers take the bull by the horns and investigate it themselves. The repercussions of their findings are enormous, and dangerous.
Michael Bronte I'm always got an idea or two floating around in my head, so inspiration does not seem to be the problem. Finding the time to write is another story.
Michael Bronte Actually my son came up with the basic idea. I was trying to do a bonding thing and thought he might be interested in working out a plot line as a father/son project. I wrote it, so I guess it worked.
