D.J. Niko Writer's block only happens when you don't write regularly. The best way to deal with it is to write every day, even if it's just for a little while. It will keep the juices flowing and the story front of mind.

I can't help but wonder if the cover model for your latest book, "The Judgment," is *you* with ancient-egyptian-inspired makeup? If so, I LOVE that! I wish I could see myself dolled up ancient-Egyptian style. Tell me about your book covers. Did you have input into them? I am assuming Medallion Press designs them. I'm a self-published author, so I'm sure my process is quite different.

D.J. Niko Good question! The cover model is definitely not me, but I'm flattered you considered that. I wish I looked that good! :) My book covers are designed by the talented art directors at Medallion. I definitely have input, but they get the final say. For this particular cover, we went around a couple of times before they came up with this image of Nicaule (King Solomon's Egyptian wife, whose voice is prominent in the book). What do you think of it? I'd love to know.

Did you do most of that world-traveling alone, or did you sometimes go with a partner or friend? That took a lot of courage. How did you manage to be so brave?

D.J. Niko Thanks for asking, Sally. I've done a little of both. Some places beg for solitude; others are best enjoyed in the company of others. In some cases, safety is an issue. For example, I would not recommend gorilla tracking in the impenetrable wilderness of Uganda/Rwanda/Congo alone. :) Being brave is easier when you're young and unattached. Not sure I would do half this stuff now that I have young kids! Still, I do have an itch to get back to Africa--Zimbabwe, in particular. There is a site of ancient ruins there that may just inspire a new story ...
