I plan on finishing the last two volumes of Samuel Eliot Morrison's series of US Naval Operations in WWII. Although it can be heavy reading, I may try another run-through of Proust's In Search of Lost Time.
Not much time to write for fun anymore, as I'm teaching/writing lessons. So I will be writing, but I actually get paid for this kind of writing (even if it is academic and "dry")

My advice is to read, read, read. Whenever you think you've got the perfect story, sit on it for a month or so, then re-read it. Read some more. Then write.

I read. I grab a stack of books, and just start reading. This will keep my mind off of the stumbling block, while also letting it absorb other ideas and structures. Invariably something pops up and whatever knot I've got can be untied.

My freshman English teacher promised an A to the first person who got themselves published. I took this as a challenge and submitted dozens of poems to magazines and journals: Within a couple of months, Chimera's Children's magazine picked up my poem and I was off and running.
