Hi Marissa,
I'm happy to hear that you and your brother both enjoyed "The Rescue Team." To answer your question: Ellie, the dog in the story, is based upon my own dog, who is also named Ellie. She has always loved rescuing small animals and has even brought me injured rabbits, like the dog in the story. As far as the character, Toby, goes, I thought it would be cool to include a cat in the story. I think cats are really awesome animals and don't get enough credit for how smart they are. Once I had the characters developed, the story evolved around them and I ended up with "The Rescue Team."

My most recently published book is "Every Day Needs A Dog." It is the third book in a contemporary romance collection set in the small town of Spring Valley. Each book in the collection triggered the inspiration for the next book. Although each book shares several characters, they can also be read as stand alone stories.

I'm very excited about beginning work on a romantic western, "Scarred Hearts." The plot follows a gunfighter with internal scars, a woman with external scars, and how they can help each other move past the pain.

Keep at it and don't give up. Getting your work published is only one part of the process. Marketing is very time consuming and you can feel like you aren't making any progress. However, with patience, you will eventually start to see results.

When I write, I get lost in the story that I'm creating. It is as if a movie is playing in my mind and coming out of my fingers. It is a great feeling. Additionally, writing has allowed me to work from home and spend more time with my family.
