I live in a magical place, a Christmas tree farm. We had a giant white Alaskan Malamute dog, a truly majestic animal whose spirit of adventure landed him in advertising campaigns, on parade floats, ambassador of our farm. He would explore the world around us, by breaking the rules, and we can only speculate how he was able to actually do these things. He was a frequent friend to students in a secluded school, was invited into many homes, was invited to nap with children, went to cookouts and given roasted hot dogs,
This spirit-filled personality was the inspiration for my most recent series. What if his best friend was a tiny field mice who dreams of being a king . . . an unlikely pair who just might change the world.

I find inspiration from things I see, nature and ideas for characters from the people I pass in my daily life. One early evening as the sun was setting I was traveling on a rural back road just outside the city. From my car window I passed something breathtaking. A break in the trees gave me a “peekaboo” glimpse of a small meadow surrounded by trees, filled with wispy grasses, the mist of nightfall and multitudes of small twinkling fireflies glowing and fading within. It was one of the most serene and beautiful scenes and of course ended up in my third book in the Circle of Sun ☀️ Series “Mortal Moon.”

My Children’s Series, The Enchanted Farm at Fort Osage. Who knew a chapter book for kids would be read by so many adults? My protagonist Ollie is a little mouse who wants to be king of a castle, but his royal claim is rejected by the lazy field mice. “You are king of Nobody” they tell him. But Ollie creates something the mice have never seen before; maybe the little mouse is a real king after all! The series has a fun trailer, check it out!
The second in the series will be out by months end “ish” and the third before Thanksgiving.

There is no better way to improve your writing than to write, write, write. Have a good editor along with good tools that point out problems so you can improve. There is no substitute for writing everyday, talking about writing just keeps you from doing it. Write more, talk less.
