I've wanted to take Ace Roberts into his adulthood, with a less supernatural spin than the first books, so the next adventure will be when he is a freshman at Cornell University (1965). He and his fellow students get wrapped up in a Soviet plot to kidnap a US senator's daughter, and race against time to rescue her and prevent WWIII. I've managed to tie the famous northeastern blackout to the caper, and place Ace in a few harrowing situations along the way. This is a much different book than Buried Lie or Shadow of the Flag. I'd compare it to a Joseph Finder or Harlan Coben thriller.

My inspiration comes from the desire to entertain and provide thought provoking scenarios. I like to spin tales that make the reader question the plausibility of a plot point, yet at the same time wonder if that "could" in fact happen. For instance, the idea surrounding a secret buried WWII government facility (Buried Lie) in the southern Arizona mountain region is ridiculous...or is it? There are parts of Ft. Huachuca that are classified and kept from public view. Why? The idea that your mind can enable you to travel across time (Shadow of the Flag) and experience the past is ridiculous...or is it? Whose to say that DNA transferred from generation to generation does not contain hidden experiences untapped by our brain's capability? These are the types of scenarios that inspire me to write.

I have been the director of the Adventure Writer's Competition, sponsored by the Clive Cussler Collector's Society, since its inception. I have had the privilege of connecting with, and receiving manuscripts from around the world. My advice to everyone has been consistent over the years, and that is to find a topic you are passionate about and - write. That passion will no doubt flow outwards in your work, and be evident on the pages. Never, I repeat, never give up.

I'm sure my method is not the preferred, but I walk away. I find that when I am not in the creative mood, my results mirror that somewhat negative feeling. When I come back, I'm usually pumped to move on and be inspired.

Bringing ideas to fruition. I love it when an idea matures to a full blown scene or, in some cases, a book itself.

(view spoiler)[I love Native American lore, and the idea of a "spirit-walk" enabling my characters to time-travel in Shadow of the Flag was too good to pass up. (hide spoiler)]
