The trouble with fictional worlds is they are troubled and dangerous! That's what makes a good book. But if I could avoid the troubles, I would love to live in the London of Matthew Smith, the Midnight Mayor. Take a look at the first book A Madness of Angels by Kate Griffin. She brings London to life with an undercurrent of magic and supernatural power (and there's a dragon). Delicious!

I'm a voracious reader, mostly science fiction, mostly on Kindle. I keep an eye out for author promotions and follow a few authors, and grab new books that catch my eye. I hope other people will do the same for me. So I rarely know what I'm going to be reading, but usually have four or five downloaded waiting to be read. I've just finished The Secret of Spellshadow Manor, which is promoted as being the next Harry Potter, which made me skeptical, but it's true. I loved it and immediately bought the second book. Now looking for the third. I've just started Machinations which has me looking forward to bed each night, since bed is where I read. I also recommend Patty Jansen's Ambassador series which I follow closely. Waiting for the next book to come out.

My grandmother Ruth would never let anyone see her birth certificate. A few years after she died I started researching the family tree and sent for her birth certificate. She was born ten days after we used to celebrate her birthday, but the big secret was that Ruth was her second name; her first name was Lawrence. Who would call a girl Lawrence, and why change her birthday by ten days?

I'm sorry, Jon, I don't know what comment you're referring to. I've had a look at the website and it seems the book is only available as paperback, which I wouldn't buy anyway as I'm disabled and read on Kindle. It looks a very intriguing book though.

Hello Rev Jerry. I have answered in full in the comments of the review, so I won't repeat here.
You are writing about a very important subject and it is vital that readers feel confident that you know what you're talking about. Because of your many grammar errors and some difficult word choices it made it hard to concentrate on what you were actually saying. When you got the name of Nicaea wrong it undermined the quality of your research for me and I did not feel confident in reading any further.
Your arguments were very interesting and I would like to read the book again if you get it to a more professional standard. I wish you well.

1. Writers write! You must write, every day if you can.
2. Read like a writer. Read the kind of stuff you want to write, analyse how they do it.
3. Learn your craft. You don't need courses, buy a good book or two and find people who can give you advice, like a writers circle.
4. Never attempt to publish anything that you haven't revised and revised, and then had edited professionally.
5. Never give up. Good luck!

I think the saying about 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration is about right. I rarely get inspired out of the blue, I have to think about a plot problem for a while until inspiration comes!

I make sure I've always got several things on the go, so if I get stuck on one, I switch to something else. I find the answer always comes after a while.

While I see to the marketing of my two local history books, I am returning to editing my science fiction novel, which I have been working on for years. Fiction is a whole different thing to non fiction.

Since my first book, Alina, The White Lady of Oystermouth did so well, I looked through my research for another good story. If a story is fascinating to me, I think others would also be fascinated.
