I noticed "Sorrowline" on a list of "most kickass female characters." Would you tell me a little bit about the kickass heroine in that book? (I enjoy hearing about such characters, especially in YA fiction that does NOT revolve around romance.)
Niel Bushnell Hi Kelly, thanks for getting in touch. I think the 'kickass heroine' refers to a character called Eloise who is a seventeen year old woman who died many years ago, only to be resurrected as a a member of a secretive order of knights called the Paladin. Eloise rebelled against her master and was imprisoned for decades until she is found by Jack. Eloise is loyal and steadfast, and extremely capable with a sword. She joins with Jack in order to seek revenge against her former master, Rouland. Eloise features prominently on the cover of my second book, Timesmith. Hope that helps.

How do you deal with writer’s block?
Niel Bushnell I've not had writer's block as such, but I do get writer's distraction. There are so many other things that I can find to fill my time, even though I really enjoy writing. The best way to over come this is to indulge it slightly - I allow myself a bit of time-wasting before I knuckle down and hit the keyboard.

What are you currently working on?
Niel Bushnell I've three projects on the go, each at different stages of development. One is the third in the Timesmith Chronicles trilogy, one is an apocalyptic tale of two siblings witnessing the end of the world, and the third is a (hopefully) humorous fantasy tale for older readers.

What’s the best thing about being a writer?
Niel Bushnell Two things: writing and talking about writing. I love the solitary act of creating something as well as going out to events and meeting people who are passionate about stories.
