I've been thinking about this question for a couple of days, and I really don't know if this qualifies. But my own father is the sixth generation physician (I am the seventh) in my family. And I have always wondered about how much he knew and how much he suspected his own background may have played in his own decision to become a physician.

I would have to answer Shepperton Island, as that is where my protagonists hang out. And as to what I would want to do, it would be something very low-key, such as a musician in Barncuddy's Ale House, because that's where I would get the low-down on what is happening from the little people.

I don't have any books as such on my "to read" list for the summer this year. I'll pick some as I see fit, such as Ken Follett's A Column of Fire, and several of John Connolly's Charlie Parker novels. But with trying to get another publisher for my 5th and 6th books, it's taken most of my energies as a writer just to pursue that.

As to whether I would be interested in reading your book, the short answer would be yes. But to promise to read it within a certain amount of time - that I could not do. For my work as a physician, as well as my numerous other interests, including writing, painting, photography, and, of course, reading do take up much of my time. Also your book would be a welcome addition to my to-read shelf with all of the above considerations.

It would have to be MacBeth and Lady MacBeth. Their evil is so palpable, as to make them an absolutely terrifying.

Typically, I just work on another project for a while. And that might be working on another chapter, or on some other unrelated activity. I've found that the biggest thing that causes writer's block is not liking the place I am in the story. And if I can work on a later segment, then I can come back to the place I was, and see it with an entirely new perspective.

The hours - no schedule, no one telling you you're late. But then, if you want to make money writing, I can't really help you - because that's not why I write.

Just simply start writing, because, it won't get any better simply sitting in your own head. There will always be someone out there who can edit and correct - but no one who can tell your tale.

I'm working (if that is the right term) on the sequel to The Book of Drachma, which will also be a trilogy. But since writing is what I do to unwind, perhaps working is not the right term.

In all honesty, I got inspired by the presence of an Amiga computer, with a word processor!

From a gripe session. We were at a medical conference, and those at my table with me began griping about the way medicine was portrayed in the lay media.
