I’d travel to the cave where God sent Dor, the man who made time, in Mitch Albom’s The Time Keeper. The cave exists outside of time itself, and I’d have to wait until the stalactites and stalagmites met to be free. Maybe then I’d begin to understand something so fleeting.

I’ve often wondered how differently my life might have turned out if a few moments had gone another way. I was chasing the NFL, performing at a high level, and then—almost abruptly—that door closed. Being told "you're not here to make plays" by the head coach at the second university I played for, forced me to confront a question that still lingers: how much of success is talent and work, and how much is timing, perception, and fit. That unanswered “what if” has stayed with me, because it wasn't right morally.
