Jon Rance Hello, sorry for the belated reply. This question slipped through the cracks! Thanks for the question, but unfortunately I'm not planning that at the moment. For me, publishing on Kindle just works better, and I haven't had the time to publish my books in hardcover. Maybe one day, but no plans at the moment. I hope you get to read it on the Kindle, Isabella. Cheers - J X
Jon Rance My new novel is called 'Sunday Dinners' and the inspiration came from a newspaper article I read a few years ago that said the traditional Sunday roast is dying out. I already had an idea for a novel about a family told over the course of a year, and so when I read the article about Sunday roasts, I put them together. I thought it would be really interesting to see how a family evolves and all of the dramas, high and lows, only told as they get together once a month for their Sunday roast.
Jon Rance I wake up! It's that simple for me. I get inspiration from everything; life, stories, TV, books, films, overheard conversations, snippets of life, and just being alive. Reading a newspaper article can inspire a whole novel. I think that when you're a writer, you're just open to everything. You don't just see a picture or have lunch, you're always trying to see how it could fit into a book or create a new story.
Jon Rance I'm currently working on two projects. I'm desperately trying to finish my fourth novel, 'Sunday Dinners' and also finish writing my Christmas novella. It's going to be a very busy time between now and the end of the year!
Jon Rance Don't expect to make much money. I think a lot of people go into writing thinking that when they get a publishing deal and an agent that they've made it. I used to think that getting an agent was everything and that when I signed my publishing deal that I'd make lots of money. This does happen for some writers and I did OK, but for a lot of writers, you work really hard for very little money (if you work out the hourly wage you'll be devastated!) I suppose what I'm saying, don't write for money because you'll be disappointed. Write because you love it, because you have to, work hard and see where it takes you. Also never put out work that hasn't been edited properly!
Jon Rance Thanks for the question. The best thing about being a writer is waking up everyday and knowing that I get to do something I love. Writing just makes me happy. The whole process from the initial idea to the first draft, editing, and then the final book. I adore the whole process and so getting to do that for a living is the greatest thing in the world. On the flip side, it doesn't pay enough money and I'm always worried that no one will like what I've done.
Jon Rance Thanks so much for my first question on Goodreads! Writer's block. It happens. I'm usually working on a few things at once and so I usually find that if I have writer's block on one, I can usually work on something else. If that doesn't work I suggest watching your favourite TV show or film, reading your favourite book, and remembering that everything creative started with someone looking at a blank piece of paper or computer screen! I hope this helps.
