Goodreads asked Jon Rance:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Jon Rance Don't expect to make much money. I think a lot of people go into writing thinking that when they get a publishing deal and an agent that they've made it. I used to think that getting an agent was everything and that when I signed my publishing deal that I'd make lots of money. This does happen for some writers and I did OK, but for a lot of writers, you work really hard for very little money (if you work out the hourly wage you'll be devastated!) I suppose what I'm saying, don't write for money because you'll be disappointed. Write because you love it, because you have to, work hard and see where it takes you. Also never put out work that hasn't been edited properly!
