Rena George My current WIP, A Cornish Christmas Murder, is the next book in the Loveday Ross Cornish Mysteries series, and scheduled to be published in December.
It’s a snowy December morning in Marazion, but magazine editor, Loveday Ross, is still jogging along the beach, angry and kicking herself for dumping her policeman boyfriend, DI Sam Kitto.
She replayed the heated scene in her mind, still angry at Sam’s criticism of her involvement in his cases. It was hardly her fault if people sought her help. She jogged on, feeling miserable and not at all sure that she's done the right thing. Would he give her another chance? Did she even deserve one?
Lost in her own thoughts, she didn’t give a glance to the row of terraced cottages above the beach. But then, how could she have known that inside one of them, a man lay dead at the foot of his stairs.
When the dead man’s neighbour, Priddy Rodda, makes the shocking discovery, she rushes for help to local GP, Dr Adam Trevillick – and finds his wife, Cassie and Loveday in the middle of a Christmas baking session.
Determined not to be drawn into yet another of Sam's cases, Loveday tries to keep her distance. However fate takes a hand, when Priddy seeks her help. Unable to refuse the distressed old lady, Loveday once again finds herself caught up in another murder investigation…
Rena George All of it. I just love writing. To start a new day and know that I can spend most of it simply writing, is my idea of heaven. To sit in front of my computer, or curl up on the sofa with a notebook and pen, and enter that world of make believe is such an incredible privilege.
My decision to self-publish was possibly one of the best I have ever made. I love being responsible for all my writerly decisions, creating the kind of book that I want to write.
Since I first became an indie author just over two years ago, my portfolio of books has steadily grown. I now have nine novels and some short story collections out there, and I’m happy to say that the sales climb higher every month.
Rena George I can't honestly say I experience writer's block, but I think that has more to do with planning rather than actually writing. I know many writers like to 'wing it' when they start a new novel, letting the characters take them where they will, and trusting that the plot will unfurl as they go along. I really admire writers who can do this, but it’s not for me. Characters inevitably take over anyway, and it’s wonderful when they do because then you know that your plot is working. But I need a plan, a framework on which to hang my story. That's not saying I will always rigidly stick to it, quite the opposite, usually, but it has to be in place as a kind of starting point.
