Sybil Powell Thanks for your question for me it's difficult as I'm pretty much a realist when I write it is of worlds I know same when I read it is of places that exist. My favourite author is Nevil Shute but I don't believe I would cast myself into any of his situations.
Sybil Powell I don't have any worthwhile mysteries in my life to hang a tale on, but I did live in Saudi Arabia for ten years and that inspired my book "Inshallah!
Now historical as I was out there in 1978 when I wrote it.
Sybil Powell I like the flexibility of being a writer, when I'm in full flow I tend to work for as long as the inspiration lasts and when I'm working on the story line it tends to work on in the background as a thought process. Of course there are interruptions which as a rule I welcome. I'm not inflexible about my writing but as a general principal I try to stick to the above. I don't work other than writing so it gives me an interest and I love it.
Sybil Powell To be honest I have not been bothered too much with writer's block but then I do tend to discuss the developments in my story line with my husband who often makes suggestions. I don't always use his ideas but it does often lead to a new line of thought. I think having someone (not necessarily a husband) to bounce ideas off helps.
Sybil Powell It is not modesty but I really feel that I am not in any position to advise anyone. I feel I am still an aspiring writer myself. In my answers to other questions I have given my approach to writing and if any of that is of help I would be flattered.
Sybil Powell Having only really just finished Life with my Newfoundland I am working round to a historical book based in my home town of Eastbourne in Sussex England. As yet it's story is very hazy and has no title.
Sybil Powell I try to draw inspiration from a need actual, or imagined.

For example 'Inshallah' was stimulated from misunderstanding of the Saudi Arab way of life by expatriate and ended up as an exciting love story to show the different approaches to life of both sides.

The Evergreen series were drawn from the research my husband and I did when we planned to buy a hotel. It also was inspired by an imagenery life where from the worst possible start a girl reaches the very top of her industry only to reject it all for love and a rural life.

Seducing Judy was inspired by a number of situations in a factory I worked in. Non with the dire consequences in the book actually occurred in real life but it was an opportunity to include the dangers of a war torn mind.

Life with my Newfoundlands is a book wholly devoted to my dogs and how we enjoyed each others company.

That's how my books come to be written, I hope they inspire you in their different ways.
Sybil Powell I try to draw inspiration from my life's experiance and those of others I know personally. I prefer use settings I have actually lived in, in fact to put it plainly my writings are based on things I know.
