My most recent novel, "The Adversary's Good News", came to me one day as I walked downstairs and saw sitting on the kitchen table of a house I was living in in Washington, DC at the time my roommate's copy of Dante's "Inferno", which she was apparently reading a the moment. I looked at the book sitting there, contemplated its cover and how much I'd appreciated it as a young man, and realized I had my own version of The Divine Comedy to tell. That night, I wrote the sentence: "Somehow, a dead sparrow had found its way onto Christian Michael Anderson's floor." And the rest, well, you can read a little about it here: https://israfelsivad.wordpress.com/20....

The world, both external and internal, inspires me. I like going to art museums and galleries to see how other kinds of artists are confronting the world around them and melding their internal experiences to it. A great album will often inspire me, especially something new that causes me to see the world in a different way. Film is another favorite of mine, watching movies and getting lost in narrative structures always inspires me to create my own worlds.

I'm currently working on a number of projects. My main project right now, however, is my blog "memoir" project "Something Like a Phenomenon". You can start it here: https://israfelsivad.wordpress.com/20...

I force myself to keep writing. Oftentimes, I'll put on music and simply sit still at my desk until the next paragraph finally, painfully comes into fruition. Sometimes, I'll get back in the flow of things by editing something I've already written, but more often than not, the answer is music. Always music.
