Susan Kite Wow, sorry it took me so long to get back to you. As a matter of fact, those very books have been published by Bold Venture Press. (Zorro and the Outward Journey, Zorro and the Forbidden Country, and Zorro's Deadly Homecoming. )They have been re-edited with suggestions from Zorro Productions and are in e-book, PB and in HB. I have a couple of new short stories in two Zorro anthologies, too.
The shorter stuff is on Ao3 (archive of our own) along with the stories from Gail Manfre and Keliana, both of whom have passed away.
Susan Kite Now that summer is almost over, I have to say that I mostly have been reading books that enhance my research lately. Submarines by Rebecca Stefoff, other submarine books. Have also been re-reading Princess of Mars and realize that our language has changed even in the 100 years since publication of that book. Otherwise, I look on the 'tween' & YA shelves of the local library and pull out what seems interesting.
Susan Kite A high-pitched scream pierced the darkness of an abandoned graveyard. "Who the hell said it was easy to return from the dead?"
Susan Kite Pern! I would explore the weirs and meet the dragons. Definitely would ride one and go between! Maybe I'd get to bring back a fire lizard.
Susan Kite Read. Work on drafts already written. Work on a little fan-fiction.
I have had several periods of time when I have had blocks, but now isn't one of them, thank goodness.
Susan Kite Having the adventures you could never have in real life is one great thing. Another is creating life. When you are writing, you are creating characters, putting them in places you have built, giving them essence. It's very empowering.
Susan Kite The germ began as a dream I had one night. One of those 'I can fly' dreams. It grew into a story of mutants trying to live on a hostile world under the thumb of those who would exploit them and their new world.
Susan Kite I have always enjoyed writing; did a little when I was still in jr. high and high school, mostly what is now called fan-fiction. (Loved Star Trek, etc.) When I was in a bad work situation, when my kids were almost grown, I began writing again as a release. Again, it was fan-fiction, Zorro this time, thinking I could sell it since the movie had come out by that time.(Wrong on that assumption, but the internet allowed easy publication of stories.) I wrote in various fandoms for a decade before trying my hand at writing original novels.
Susan Kite I am working on a couple of things. One is a continuation of Corree's adventures (The Mendel Experiment). I had thought to only have two novels about Corree, but she demanded more. I am also working on a fantasy about a group of cats and dogs working together in an alternate universe. I guess a kind of answer to 'what happens to cats when they get another life?'
Update: I am working on sequels to Moon Crusher (I am working on number 5) and a novel called Voyage of the Sea Dragon, part 1. Moon Crusher and Sea Dragon have both won awards.
Susan Kite Read, read, read. Then write, write, write. I could paper my whole house with the sheets of writing. As you write, continue reading.
