James Scouller If you're a nonfiction writer, write what you care about. If you don't care about it, don't write it.

Simple as that.

You must have a passion for your subject AND believe that what you have to say will help others. If you don't, don't embark on the journey, as what you write will lack the vital spark that helps you connect with readers.
James Scouller Yemi, I'd suggest Leading the Revolution by Gary Hamel for its great material on business models and how to unpack them.

Plus I'd suggest my own book, The Three Levels of Leadership (the second edition ... which will be out in two weeks time) for its new material on leadership's four dimensions and how to lead change.
James Scouller First, a second edition of The Three Levels of Leadership because reader feedback has told me I needed to say more about the four dimensions of leadership.

Actually, it's not just reader feedback. It's also because I was invited to give a talk at the UK's leading centre of leadership training: the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst, where the British Army trains its new officers-to-be. (It's the UK's equivalent to West Point.) They peppered me with questions, which I could answer, but it told me I should say more in "Three Levels".

So I'm going to add a chapter on this and, in so doing, add one more tool to the book.

After that, I'll return to the book on teams (how to build and sustain them) that I was writing before being diverted to writing "Three Levels".
James Scouller Well, this was a bit strange...

Back in 2008, I was writing a book about teams and got to the chapter about team leadership. That's when I crafted a definition of leadership I liked (the four-dimensional definition). Then I developed a three-level model showing what leaders have to do to (a) address the four dimensions and (b) grow themselves as leaders.

That's when I thought, "Hold on, these models are pretty good." I checked on the Internet and realised they were original contributions to the field of leadership.

More thoughts and ideas flowed and pretty soon I realised there was a book on leadership trying to get born. So I abandoned the teams book and surrendered to the flow of ideas. Sounds odd, I know, but that's the way it was.
