Brooke Burgess Become a good STORYTELLER first. Whether it's fireside chats with friends, a book report at school, acting out movie scenes at family reunions, making 3-4 panel comic strips, shooting short vids, for even posting tweets — learn in as many formats as possible WHAT works and WHY it works. Combined with a voracious appetite for great stories (in books, TV and film, comics, plays, radio dramas, and classic myths) you'll eventually zero in on the stories YOU want to tell...and the best way to tell them.
Brooke Burgess Being a writer gives you the freedom and power to 'remake the world' as you see fit, and potentially overcome the obstacles and conflicts that seem insurmountable in the waking world. Writing is DREAMING...and dreams are, in my opinion, the best thing about being alive.
Brooke Burgess The biggest mystery from personal experience has got to be my ongoing experiences with prophetic DREAMS. Not only have I had timely 'slumber visions' that nudged me in the right direction just when I needed it, presented a solution to a vexing problem, or even saved my ass from an impending crisis...I've also had old friends contact me out of the blue with dream-driven warnings and guidance. Might make for a great book...even if Neil Gaiman kinda covered the ground already in SANDMAN =)
Brooke Burgess Buffy and Angel in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Shakespearian tragedy meets teen angst meets supernatural soap opera, with the darker aspects of 'love' always falling in the spotlight. I still watch eps from both series when I need a reminder of what love Could be.

Jesse and Celine from the Before trilogy are a close runner-up. That's my dream relationship.
Brooke Burgess Get physical until you sweat. Hitting stuff works.
Find something -- your flat, desktop, or underwear -- to clean.
Take a lonnnnnng, hot bath. Preferably with bubbles.
If you're writing fiction, watch/read a true story. Flip it for non-fiction.
Find people and/or animals to OBSERVE.
Sketch, paint, sing, or make some music.

Brooke Burgess Current projects include:

- a new draft of an action/drama screenplay (you might be able to find the current one if you hunt on Amazon ;) )
- the dialogue and narration for a MASSIVE mobile/web game from a major publisher, to be announced Spring 2015.
- VOLUME II of THE SHADOWLAND SAGA!
Brooke Burgess I watch/read/listen-to/absorb as much inspirational material as possible. Sometimes for months on end.

And then..?

LIVE!

That's honestly the most potent source of inspiration for any creative soul.

The struggle and beauty inherent to Life itself.
Brooke Burgess I could ramble and cover old ground, but I think brevity (and links) are prudent things :-)
