BROOKE BURGESS was born in a tiny town on the eastern coast of Canada. After a youth filled with comic books, animation, and video games, he went on to receive acclaim for writing, producing, and contributing to groundbreaking interactive and multi-platform story projects. Cats had a presence in his home from the very beginning, quickly becoming his siblings, friends, and (benevolent) masters, and playing a role in many of his future works. Similarly, an old graveyard on a nearby hill was a real (and beautiful) thing in Brooke's youth, which probably influenced his love of scary stories.

Brooke has written for videogames (Need For Speed, Kessen, 007), animation (Broken Saints), comic books (Becoming), and film. He loves mythology, travel, r

“There were fat cats and skinny cats. The long-tailed and the bobbed. The daring young leapers, and the old windowsill sleepers. Balls of waddling fluff, smooth-coated prowlers, and hairless ones that looked fragile and wise. The tiger-striped, the ring-tailed, and the ones with matching coloured socks and mittens. There were tabbies and calicos. Manx and Persians. Siamese and Bombay. Ragdolls and Birmans. Maine Coons and Russian Blues. There were Snowshoes and Somalis, Tonkinese and Turkish, and many, many more. Brown and beige and orange and grey and black and white and silver cats, each with gleaming eyes of emerald, or sapphire, or amber. A rainbow of precious stones.”
Brooke Burgess, The Cat's Maw

“He looked up at the stars as the storm closed in and saw them extinguished, one-by-one, until just two remained. They glimmered and shone through gaps in the clouds like two great eyes in the darkness, burning on a demon’s face that chased him across the sea.”
Brooke Burgess, The Cat's Maw

“The space between between breaths is measured in moments. But the space between Truths..? Lifetimes.”

“You are never stronger...than when you land on the other side of despair.”

“When things are good, it is because we remember a time when they were not. When there was pain. But now the pain is gone, so things are ‘good’. When we hurt, it is because we recall a time when we did not. When there was no pain. But now we suffer, so things are ‘bad’. The tiger sipped from the cup, peering at the boy over the rim. Stars swirled in its eyes. “Good. Bad. The cup holds both.”
