K.J. Hargan I have never had writer's block. I believe that 'writer's block' is a misnamed term for a writer not being ready to write. When I am preparing a new novel, I fill my head with research that comes from the internet, the library, TV, movies, being social, books, news, whatever source of information I can lay my hands on. As I do this I take copious notes. I usually have a notebook on my person at all times. When I am ready to start the novel, I have a ton of information, several notebooks full of notes, and a pretty good outline shaped up from that mass of information. Then every day I try to meet a specific goal of pages, or chapters. Being prepared to write I am well motivated and filled with the energy of curiosity. I usually have a vague idea of where a plot thread is headed, but I am almost always unsure of how to get there and so that fuels my own curiosity. I am very often surprised by the actions or dialogue of a character which I did not plan. It simply came out of the writing. I trust my subconscious to guide the writing with the preponderance of information I've fed it. I have never had a single day of staring at an empty page. So many ideas are bursting to get out of my head because I was well prepared to write.

K.J. Hargan work. work day and night. turn work into a habit. nothing gets results like work.
K.J. Hargan The Chronicles of the Elf Human Wars Book Two: Berand Brave is at this moment in its third draft. It should be ready late February 2015. Damien Hawes awesome cover is already completed. I asked him to do all three covers at once, so the art work for the third book is already done! I can't show it to you as it is very spoilery.
K.J. Hargan Most of my inspiration comes from my subconscious. I learned long ago to tap this vast resource by turning off my conscious mind with boring and repetitive tasks, usually household chores. If you stop by and I'm mopping the kitchen, it's usually because I'm stuck on a story idea.
K.J. Hargan Berand Brave is about to be released as I type this in early 2015. The idea for this second in the series, The Chronicles of the Elf Human Wars, came from the things I set up in the first of the series. A lame answer, I know, but truthful.
What new ideas came that weren't part of the set up from the first book? The idea and process of Dwarvish magic. I really had no plan for that and when it emerged on its own, I was quite stunned. I can't wait for you to read about the Hall of Masks.
