I believe that 'writer's block' is a misnamed term for a writer not being ready to write. When I am preparing a new novel, I fill my head with research that comes from the internet, the library, TV, movies, being social, books, news, whatever source of information I can lay my hands on. As I do this I take copious notes. I usually have a notebook on my person at all times. When I am ready to start the novel, I have a ton of information, several notebooks full of notes, and a pretty good outline shaped up from that mass of information. Then every day I try to meet a specific goal of pages, or chapters. Being prepared to write I am well motivated and filled with the energy of curiosity. I usually have a vague idea of where a plot thread is headed, but I am almost always unsure of how to get there and so that fuels my own curiosity. I am very often surprised by the actions or dialogue of a character which I did not plan. It simply came out of the writing. I trust my subconscious to guide the writing with the preponderance of information I've fed it. I have never had a single day of staring at an empty page. So many ideas are bursting to get out of my head because I was well prepared to write.(less)
