Hi Cheryl, My apologies for taking so long to answer. Yes, I let the website go for a while, but I have a facebook page (Sandra Hood, author). I'd love to see you there. I do the occasional newsletter, but right now I'm focusing on finishing a novel. Thanks for checking in!

I've got a couple of things in the works. One, a sci-fi love story that is evolving out of last year's NYCMidnight Flash Fiction Challenge, where you are given a genre, location, and an object to use in the story and have 48 hours to write 1000 words. So much fun! I really fell in love with these characters, and felt compelled to give them their own full story in a novel. The other, which may or may not be a writing exercise, is a modernized suspense inspired by The Phantom of the Opera, both Leroux's original novel and the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical. I find both so intriguing, I wanted to see if I could put my own spin on the classic. Writing it is a wonderful challenge -- capturing the essence of Christine, Raoul, and Erik, but giving them new life with some unexpected twists.

I hate to say it came to me in a dream, but that's entirely possible. I carried the seed of Blood Exchange around with me for years before I finally decided to write it. I had this visual of vampirism being legalized, which to me meant yep, not only can they suck your blood, they have a right to it. Then I wondered if that happened, who would be exempt? The idea of sanctuary grew out of that. This original seed sprouted, but I'd say it grew a few distorted branches along the way. I like that, though; I'm not the kind of writer who can plan an outline and stick to it. I like the organic aspect of writing, and I'm happy with where that first idea took me.
