Sandra Hood was born in Atlanta, Georgia and graduated from Kennesaw State University, where she studied Computer Science, a discipline she finds strangely invaluable in constructing plots and weaving in side-stories. Sandra believes that in a world where bizarre, complicated, and sometimes evil agendas come into play, mankind holds at its core an inherent goodness, a trait she likes to explore in her writing. She currently lives in the suburbs of Atlanta with her two come-and-go college children and a dog who likes to stare at her while she writes. One, a sci-fi love story that is evolving out of last year's NYCMidnight Flash Fiction Challenge, where you are given a genre, location, and an object to use in the story and have 48 hours to write 1000 words. So much fun! I really fell in love with these characters, and felt compelled to give them their own full story in a novel. The other, which may or may not be a writing exercise, is a modernized suspense inspired by The Phantom of the Opera, both Leroux's original novel and the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical. I find both so intriguing, I wanted to see if I could put my own spin on the classic. Writing it is a wonderful challenge -- capturing the essence of Christine, Raoul, and Erik, but giving them new life with some unexpected twists.(less)

Write-On!! Monday: Reading, Writing, (and some Arithmetic?)

Reading—that’s the reason we become writers. And there’s this funny thing that happens when you decide to write—you read differently. Suddenly, after all those years of enjoying other authors’ writing, you begin analyzing the work, chasing the Why. What exactly is it about an author’s piece that appeals to you? Obviously the magical way he or she strings words together, but, and this is where the Read more of this blog post »
