I've always been interested in the many-worlds interpretation of quantum theory. That's where, if you flip a coin and it comes out tails, another universe is instantly created where the coin flip comes out heads. What if these worlds intersected? That's the surface plot mechanism. On a deeper level, the new book deals with people coping (or not) with an radically changing world.

I'm currently finishing The Field, which I hope will be released around Thanksgiving 2014. This book has taken me about a year to write and is a tough one. It seems like the work never ends when trying to finish a book, but one day things just seem to come together. I'm working toward that day, every day.

Don't take classes. Don't enter contests. Don't read about writing, unless it's The Elements of Style or Elmore Leonard's Ten Rules of Writing and go lightly on those. Just write- about anything and everything. Create a blog, not so much to develop a following but to give you practice producing short pieces with a beginning, middle and end. Like anything else, the more you work at it, the better you get.

There is no such thing as writer's block. Say you're working in a writer's room on a show or movie in Hollywood, and you turn and say, "I can't do it. I'm blocked."
About fifteen seconds later you're replaced by someone who can produce on demand. Someone who can deliver regardless of their current mental state or circumstances. That's the difference between a pro writer and an amateur.
