I picked up your book just from the title; it reminded me of the poem "Adrift" (Mark Nepo). We lost a child in 2009 & now have another with ALS, so I was captivated by the way you normalize death in the story & also by your so very accurate descriptions of the anguish of child loss. I read portions to our therapist, who has also lost a child. I can't help but wonder how you captured the experience so accurately...?

Hello Ben, Your quote about the 'twenty-minute gift' of returning to the present moment from one's deathbed is incredibly profound. When you were writing that specific passage, did it change how you personally view or experience your own daily routine?
Ben Reeves Thanks, Isreal. Actually, if I remember rightly, it was the other way around. About a year before writing this book, I was in a particularly depressed state of mind, walking to work, and I had the sudden realisation that one day I will be on my deathbed, and when that day comes, I would give anything to return to this moment. The realisation was like a gift. So I tried to express that in those words, and I sent the passage to my wife.

At some point, I realised it would be the perfect ender for this book.
