About a year before writing this book, I was in a particularly depressed state of mind, walking to work, and I had the sudden realisation that one day I will be on my deathbed, and when that day comes, I would give anything to return to this moment. The realisation was like a gift. So I tried to express that in those words, and I sent the passage to my wife.

At some point, I realised it would be the perfect ender for this book.(less)

I picked up your book just from the title; it reminded me of the poem "Adrift" (Mark Nepo). We lost a child in 2009 & now have another with ALS, so I was captivated by the way you normalize death in the story & also by your so very accurate descriptions of the anguish of child loss. I read portions to our therapist, who has also lost a child. I can't help but wonder how you captured the experience so accurately...?
