Deedra Climer I recently saw a quote I liked about becoming a writer. It said people don't plan to be writers. You plan to be a postman or a dentist. Being a writer is more like being gay - one day you admit it to yourself. You come out and hope people don't turn you away.

Even though I've been writing for myself since I was a child, it took me a long time to admit to myself that I wanted my writing to be experienced by others. It seemed so presumptuous! Now that I have a base of readers who appreciate my work, I understand that writing for the public is an act of humility rather than an act of pretension.
Deedra Climer Currently, I'm working on a memoir about my healing process after the death of my son. I started writing Wailing Wall on the back of an envelope the day he died. Over the next several months, writing kept me sane and gave me a reason to get out of bed each day. Early drafts were as much therapy as they were art. Since then, I've worked with some amazing editors to develop a story that is engaging for readers. I'm proud of the book and can't wait to see it in print Summer, 2015.
