I must ask (and only because I would love to know and the silly girl in me wants a comparison) if you had to choose a celebrity to play Fear in a movie, who would you choose? I have a picture of him in my head, but I'd like to know if there's anyone out there YOU think is good enough to be considered his lookalike. (Because honestly, I don't. He's the most perfect character ever created. Seriously. <3)
Kelsey Sutton Aw, thank you so much. I LOVE this question, and I think Fear is pretty perfect, too. Although I may be biased. This is something I've daydreamed about many, many times, so there's absolutely no judgement here. I guess the closest actor to Fear is Alex Pettyfer. (Cue silly girl squeal.) Just finished your book 'Some Quiet Place' and it was amazing! Loved the strong female protagonist and the way you wrote her. Definitely one of my favourite books. What was your inspiration for the book and the emotions?
Kelsey Sutton Thank you so much, Jessica. That's incredibly sweet. My inspiration for SOME QUIET PLACE was, essentially, the character Fear. He popped into existence before anything else - even Elizabeth - and I knew I had to create a story with him in it. The plot and the other characters fell into place after writing his first scene.

This question is from my 13 year old daughter, actually. She wants to know how do you feel when someone (like herself) gushes about Some Quiet Place being her favorite book EVER? Do you feel pressure to keep up the standard? :-)
Kelsey Sutton How do I feel? Awed, humbled, and infinitely grateful. Comments like this always make my day. I'm so, so glad she enjoyed SOME QUIET PLACE. I feel no pressure, only an intense desire to make sure she loves the next book just as much!

What’s the best thing about being a writer?
Kelsey Sutton Interacting with the readers. The best parts of my day are getting emails or tweets about these characters and stories. It still amazes and humbles me that people relate so strongly to them.

How do you deal with writer’s block?
Kelsey Sutton Writer's block is tricky. I think that's the fear or anxiety getting to us, a tiny voice in our heads saying we're not good enough, but we need to ignore it. Push through and write. If that fails, writing prompts are always fun!

I absolutely loved Some Quiet Place and I can't wait to read Where Silence Gathers! How did you come up with the idea of personified emotions? And are you working on any more YA novels, especially any ones set in the world of SQP?
Kelsey Sutton That is so wonderful to hear! Thank you, Georgeana. To answer your question, I came up with the idea for SOME QUIET PLACE one day when I’d typed something totally cliché, like, “Fear rooted me in place.” I sat back, frowning, and wondered how I could make this utterly unique from other moments consumed by fear. Somehow, that fear became a tall, blonde, snarky creature that roams the earth and instills terror into every human being simply by touch. It became Fear, who is now one of my favorite characters.

As for what I'm working on, I'm always writing! My project is definitely young adult. I don't know if I'll ever write another book set in the world of personified emotions, but that door is never closed! It's just a matter of being inspired and finding the right story.
