OMG! OnSpec, the Canadian Science Fiction Magazine, opened their submissions and I submitted 2 short stories to them. Submissions closed Jan 31, so now I have practically nothing on my plate. Then I got an idea for a novel... then I had a brainsplosion and it turned into an idea for a Trilogy (oh, how I hate that, everyone is doing trilogies!). But if each novel could stand alone, and yet work together as a longer narrative arc, I think I could do it without too much guilt.

Write. Write. Then, when you're done that, read. Check out Joanna Penn at thecreativepenn.com. I find her very inspirational and her podcasts are a wealth of information. And treat writing like a job. Set aside time and stick to it.

The best thing about being a writer is having tacit permission to live inside my imagination for the better part of every day. E.g. "No, honey, I'm not daydreaming, I'm working."

Six came from our family dog, Adelaide, whom I adore, and a scene in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban wherein Ron needs to buy rat tonic. The rats in the Magical Menagerie are skipping, and I loved the skipping rats.

I don't believe in writer's block. There's a great quote by Somerset Maugham in which he said that he only writes when inspiration strikes, so long as it strikes every morning at 9am.
I think what we call writers' block is actually motivated by fear. What if my writing is horrid? What if I don't have any ideas? What if I can't think of anything to write? I think this is normal, and the best way to shake it off is simply to write... even if it is horrid.
