Logan Albright It's great to have an outlet for all the thoughts and ideas that randomly pop up in my head. It's great knowing that any random notion, even just an image, a feeling, a smell, can be the seed for a novel, a story, or an article. Nothing gets thrown away when you're a writer, it all just gets folded into the raw material you'll one day use for a project.
Logan Albright The biggest mistake people make with writing is to assume you have to be "inspired" to do it. Writing, like anything else, is about putting in the work. If you can't think of anything good to write, write something bad. If you can't think of anything bad to write, write gibberish. Nothing gets the creative juices flowing like putting pen to paper and just doing it, but if you sit around and wait for brilliance to come to you, you're likely to be waiting a long time.
Logan Albright Read a lot and write a lot. I never took any creative writing classes, but I read voraciously as a child and by imitating my heroes I learned the basics of how to string ideas together coherently. I then refined that through daily writing practice, which is were you discover what works and what doesn't, and start to develop your personal style. After a couple hundred thousand words, I started to shed the pretense and artifact of my juvenile style to become more direct, efficient, and honest.
Logan Albright I'm almost finished with a new book called Libertarian Paganism, wedding two of my interests and philosophies. I'm also in the middle of writing a horror novel called Forest Logic about a tech entrepreneur who moves to the woods in pursuit of the simple life, only to find it's not what he imagined it.
I'm also in the early planning stages for a book about the use of music in religious rituals.
Logan Albright I'm fortunate to always be full of ideas for books I want to write. The challenge is to work on finishing current projects rather than starting new ones. I go for a walk every morning, drink a cup of tea, and meditate a bit to help me focus, and after that I usually feel ready to work.
