Sara Barnard The best thing about being a writer is going back and reading what you've written. I love it when I find sparks of genius in works I completed years ago. Something about that gives me hope for my future works!
Sara Barnard Writer's block is easy to get over. Put away the manuscript that has you stumped. Pick up a book and read. Then, write something in another genre. That's how my two picture books, Chunky Sugars and Little Spoon, were born - during a bout of writer's block while writing the Everlasting Heart series. Trust me . . . your muse will start talking to you again once you turn your attention fully to another project. They are kind of jealous that way.
Sara Barnard My advice to aspiring writers - and advice that I would give to my younger self - is to not stop writing. Don't throw away drafts of stories or work you don't like. Keep them. In the movies, you see the dramatic scene where the aspiring writer deletes their entire manuscript only to sit down and write their magnum opus. THAT IS NOT REAL LIFE. Never delete.
Sara Barnard I got the idea for my most recent releases, Katie's Plain Regret (Amish Journeys #1) and Rebekah's Quilt (Rebekah's Keepsakes #1) while researching my genealogy. I found a branch of my family tree that spread into Lancaster County, Pennsylvania - and my Amish series' were born!
