Stephanie Robinson I am planning to read all the Elementary Nutmeg Nominees and Intermediate Nutmeg Nominees (books up for the CT state book award). I also plan to read The Silver Star be Jeanette Walls. I have about 50 books I borrowed from family and friends and my goals is to read them all this summer and return them. Fingers crossed!
Stephanie Robinson I have kept diaries since I was in 5th grade. One diary from 8th grade went missing and has never been seen again. I spent hours trying to find it (from 8th grade until my family moved when I was in my twenties)! I know someone knows where it went and it would definitely make for an interesting story. Especially if it turned up after 25 years.
Stephanie Robinson The idea for THE SECRET FILES OF FAIRDAY MORROW came from my co-author, Jessica Haight's childhood. At her grandparents' house everyone could hear footsteps upstairs when no one was up there. Her grandfather told her it was Ruby Begonia and her High-Heeled Sneakers. Jessica wrote a children's poem about it, which I read. When she decided to turn the poem into a chapter book she and I sat down and brainstormed the story and characters. So much fun writing a book with a friend!
Stephanie Robinson One of my favorite things to do is to talk to my co-author before I start writing. This helps me to get a clear picture of the scene in my mind and writing is like talking- just on paper. Another technique that I use is to look at pictures to help me visualize. Once I do these things I try to relax and start writing.
Stephanie Robinson I would say- write. If you have a story you want to tell- then start telling it. If you aren't sure what you want to write- start by keeping a diary/journal of what happens each day. Every word you put down on paper helps to get your brain thinking and your thoughts flowing. Go to writer's conferences, attend book fairs. Read. Talk to people who write. Start a blog and get to know other writers because the writing community is full of amazing and supportive people! Don't give up on your dreams if it gets hard- because it will be hard at times and the writers you get to know will help you through the tough times.
Stephanie Robinson Creating stories with one of my best friends! It is so much fun to discuss our characters and what is happening. Getting lost in stories has always been one of my favorite past times, and when I write I fall into the pages of the book until I come back up for air.
Stephanie Robinson A technique that has been working for me lately is just writing. Even when I am not sure what words I want to put down on paper, I just write and figure it will give me something to work with later. Maybe I'll change all of it, but there might be something worth keeping! Sometimes getting started is the hardest part of writer's block, but writing anything helps get the ideas flowing.

Reading is another way I can get stories going in my mind again! Can't decide what to write- take a much needed break and read. It's like magic!
Stephanie Robinson This is a tough one, as I had so much fun writing the whole book! One of my favorite scenes to write was the scene when Fairday discovers why Marcus Brocket has the nickname Brocket the Rocket. I can just picture her face when the truth is revealed. I love how it all plays out !
Stephanie Robinson I am currently working on The Talking Library, the next book in the Fairday Morrow series. It is so much fun being on a new case with the DMS! The Begonia House is full of mystery.
