Season Sinclair The idea for That We Might Have Hope and its sequel came from a desire to share God's love through storytelling, My great interest in the American Civil War and the people who lived during that time provided the inspiration for the setting. Once I came up with the character of Kate Austin, it was all I could do to keep up with her.
Season Sinclair I read a lot of historical literature surrounding the time period I write about, and many of the true events of history provide inspiration for my stories. However, things happening around me--conversations I hear, people I meet, even the weather--also provide subject matter.

I also have a great playlist of instrumental songs form the movie Gettysburg and the composer Michael W. Smith, that help me when I sit down to write. It drowns out the other sounds around me and makes the words on the page seem more real.
Season Sinclair There are so many wonderful things about being a writer. I love my characters, and I love creating them and developing their personalities. I also greatly enjoy the creativity, flexibility, and originality I have as a writer.

Season Sinclair I am currently working on the sequel to That We Might Have Hope. It will be released in 2015.
Season Sinclair If you have ever been to the mountains and gone hiking, you know what it feels like when you are trying to reach the top and it seems like it keeps getting further and further away. Sometimes writing can feel like that. There is a lot of trudging along, and it is likely that you will not reach the top of the mountain anytime soon, but the scenery along the way is not something you want to miss. Start climbing. It is a wonderful experience and worth all the ledges along the way.
Season Sinclair Writer's block seems to be inevitable but doesn't have to last forever. When I get tied up in historical details or character development, I step away from the manuscript for a season. I begin to look around more purposefully. I listen for conversations and stories that might spark some inspiration. Often, I just need a change of scenery. Sometimes I will go to a different manuscript and work on it, read over it, and edit it for a time. Once that has been done, I can usually return to my original story and begin to write refreshed. Of course, sometimes the remedy for writer's block is simply just to write.
