My grandfather died when my mother was young. She remembered him vividly. Problem: I can't find any record of the man having actually existed.

I bang my head against the block repeatedly until I start to bleed. The blood drips onto the block and it dissolves. Either that or I pass out.

I can talk to myself without people thinking I'm crazy.

I'm a listener.
There is something about me that inspires people to tell me their life stories.
I can be sitting on a bus next to a stranger and before long, they'll just start telling me their story.
Story is power. When you share your story with another human being, you are both giving and gaining perspective. Seeing the world through multiple points of view can make some of the hardest times easier.
I listen. When I see a thread that runs between many different stories, I look for ways to weave it into the stories I write.

Write!
Years ago, I heard a talk by Thomas Kinkade. He said that if you could be anything other than an artist, you should be.
I echo that. If you can be anything else, do it. But if you can't, if you have been created a writer with a passion to create worlds that consumes you and will drive you insane if you don't -- in that case, write. Embrace it. Anything else will not satisfy you.
Writing can be agony. There will be days when the words flow like Niagra Falls, and other days when they flow like set concrete.
The writing industry is a whirlpool of technology, emotion, and hard work.
Come on in. The water is warm.

I'm currently finishing up a fantasy novel, Dominion of Darkness. Dominion started with a thought: what if Juliet woke up to find Romeo dead and was prevented from killing herself? As I thought about this question, I wondered what if she woke up not just days later, but many years later.
Years ago, a friend told me that he was too far gone for God to save. This heart wrenching comment by someone who had fallen deep into Satanic practices and who now wanted out, became the focal point for Dominion.
