Marcia Ferguson I can't say I've had 'writer's block' as it's easy for me to imagine characters and their lives, so I just follow them along on their paths and a great imagination makes it easy - and that's something I've been blessed with. However, I am always inspired by particular music ... if I hear the 'right' music, I'm launched along the path of imagination. For me, it's usually instrumental music like Robin Meloy Goldsby' piano music, or the Piano Guys, or celtic music, or old-school movie soundtracks (before they started using compilations of existing songs). And listening to Andrea Bocelli also inspires me.
Marcia Ferguson Holding your book in your hand for the first time, is amazing and joyful. But the best thing about being a writer is having the chance to express what is in your heart.
Marcia Ferguson Take the time to daydream and imagine ... I know the story inside and out before I actually begin to write it. I know many writers insist on the discipline of writing (writing anything at all) for a certain word count each day ... but I'm not like that. The characters live and breathe within me, until the story is ready to be told and then it's an absolute pleasure to get it on paper. Like the icing on the cake.
Marcia Ferguson I'm outlining a new novel, toggling back and forth between the time of the 1889 Johnstown Flood and 'now'.
Marcia Ferguson I think most writers probably write as they internally speak - and if they're on the quiet side, writing is the easy way to speak. I've always been a letter writer, and am sad that seems to be lacking today, with instant communication ... but I still write letters and 'long' emails. Writing is the way I share what I see.
Marcia Ferguson My love of movies and affection for Maine brought the characters into that world.
