Katherine McIntyre I actually don't have any books that include time travel, though I'd love to tackle that in the future! There's some disjointed time in the Philadelphia Coven Chronicles though, as the fae realm runs on a different timeline than the regular world!
Katherine McIntyre The cat shot up on her lap, ears perked and eyes wide. It wasn't until she followed her cat's stare that she noticed the scritch-scritch-scritch sound or saw the ink dark tears in the walls.
Katherine McIntyre I read a lot of YA and paranormal romance, so I'll be continuing through the Throne of Glass series as well as the latest Ilona Andrews release!
Katherine McIntyre The mystery of the disappearing socks, ha! Honestly, I'm such a straight-shooter with very little by way of mystique, so I feel like my own life wouldn't be some page turning thriller with tons of twists and turns. Mine's more of a Little Engine that Could story, the sort of story where the character charges forward and rams into any obstacles that get in my way!
Katherine McIntyre My upcoming book Poisoned Apple was inspired by an old contemporary Snow White story I'd written. While I'd written the old story years ago and it was cringeworthy, I still loved the concept. So, I did an overhaul and gave Neve a bit more sarcasm and spunk to tide her through the wave of crappy things she has to deal with. I liked the idea of modern day Snow White since it's got a lot of exploitable drama. However, I wanted to add more sass and use it as an excuse to cover some big internal struggles regarding loss of a parent and absentee parents. (Nothing like my own parents though, they're lovely people)
Katherine McIntyre Get a beta reader or a critique partner who will be honest but constructive. If you think you don't need one--trust me, you do. My writing partners are my favorite people ever. If I didn't have keen eyes to point out missteps or offer suggestions to improve, my stories would stagnate and by teaming up with them, I only improve my skills as a writer.
Katherine McIntyre Genuinely anything can inspire me. For Airship, it was a combination of video games and my eternal love for pirate stories. The airship route was influenced by my introduction to the steampunk scene since I fell in love with the aesthetic. By the Sea came easily because I've always thought there was something romantic about the sea and I enjoy writing and reading about fae. The only weird thing about my process is that the first line has to come naturally--I can't just sit down and force it out. The first line is pure inspiration and from there it sets the tone of the entire story for me.
Katherine McIntyre When someone falls in love with your world and characters as much as you did. No feeling in the world can replace that.
Katherine McIntyre A cup of coffee and some music to set the tone of the scene I'm about to work on. Once I hit the right song, I can usually push through the writer's block.
Katherine McIntyre I just finished a manuscript about dystopian pirates which was absolutely exhilarating to write. But I'm also working on a novella-length paranormal romance inspired by the fairy tale a String of Pearls, by Hans Christian Andersen. Night clubs, soul collectors and diner side conversations in abundance.
