My answer will be the same for any book I've written: the idea just comes to me. It pops into my head, and it will keep pestering me until I finally get it out on paper.
Exceptions:
The Five Stages: I got the concept of this novel (writing in the point of view of a male character) from a prompt in creative writing class, which someone told me about.
Slaughterhouse: I actually started thinking about this idea ever since I played The Last of Us and Outlast: Whistleblower because both of those games involve cannibalism. However, I guess what sparked my thinking about this novel was my father's reason for never eating veal and how it is prepared in the, you guessed it, slaughterhouses.

Inspiration comes in many forms. For me, it comes in two forms: from authors who are not necessarily well-known but who produce good work (includes self-published authors), and from the music I listen to.
As a whole, I read a lot of self-published novels as well as novels that weren't self-published but also aren't that well known. When I read these kind of novels, I find that they all have something to offer, and all of the ones that I've read are actually pretty good (unlike the stereotype where all self-published authors are awful, which is just what it is: a stereotype). Those are the novels that motivate me to possibly look into self-publishing as an alternative in case traditional-publishing doesn't work out (as a note, The Five Stages has been self-published, but I'm not sure what to do with Threatening Souls once I complete that manuscript for the second time).
As for the second thing that gives me inspiration, I listen to a lot of rock and metal (which includes screamo) while I write. A lot of the songs I listen to involve minor chords and dark lyrics, which is why I choose to listen to those genres because I tend to write about dark things.

My rewrite to my Threatening Souls novel. I'm also in the midst of starting my first Days of Darkness novel, and I am planning my next ebook exclusive called Slaughterhouse.

I guess it would be to keep writing and never give up.

For me, it is being able to create something for others to enjoy as well as temporarily escaping my mundane reality in favor of the world in which my characters reside.

This is actually something that I'm going through right now.
Usually when I experience writers block, I have it about a certain chapter. If I know what I want to happen in the next chapter (which I usually do), then I put a note to myself at the end to come back to that chapter when inspiration hits, and I go on to the next one.
