Goodreads asked N.M. Lambert:

How do you get inspired to write?

N.M. Lambert Inspiration comes in many forms. For me, it comes in two forms: from authors who are not necessarily well-known but who produce good work (includes self-published authors), and from the music I listen to.

As a whole, I read a lot of self-published novels as well as novels that weren't self-published but also aren't that well known. When I read these kind of novels, I find that they all have something to offer, and all of the ones that I've read are actually pretty good (unlike the stereotype where all self-published authors are awful, which is just what it is: a stereotype). Those are the novels that motivate me to possibly look into self-publishing as an alternative in case traditional-publishing doesn't work out (as a note, The Five Stages has been self-published, but I'm not sure what to do with Threatening Souls once I complete that manuscript for the second time).

As for the second thing that gives me inspiration, I listen to a lot of rock and metal (which includes screamo) while I write. A lot of the songs I listen to involve minor chords and dark lyrics, which is why I choose to listen to those genres because I tend to write about dark things.
