G.J. Griffiths Once upon a time a few years ago we were visiting my daughter and her children in London. After a lovely day out when we returned to their home there was a a complete set of scaffolding from the ground to roof. It covered all of the front of their house and my daughter knew nothing of it! We contacted my son-in-law who was in China at the time. He had not arranged it either. His car which was on the front drive was almost completely 'caged in' by the scaffolding poles around it. Who had done it?
G.J. Griffiths The novels of Dickens, Gaskell and Eliott that I still have not got around to reading! So many books: so little time!
G.J. Griffiths It was comforting during the pitch-black night, in this strange and haunted house, for the girls to stretch out and hold hands together. When the harsh light of dawn returned, they were horrified to discover that their single beds were at opposite ends of the room, with ten feet of space separating them!
G.J. Griffiths The last book published was the second in the So What! series and I enjoyed writing about my teaching experiences so much in book 1 that I wanted to do another. This time though I tried weave a tale around the natural environment and the wildlife that exists in a person's garden. Concepts that are important to me.
G.J. Griffiths Like most people ( I hope!) I have lots of opinions and ideas about human behaviour, the world, history etc and have many experiences in my past that could be interesting to others. Rather than write a factual book I prefer to weave a story that includes some of this stuff and see what potential readers think. Naturally, there is a lot of pruning, cutting and editing before it is ready to show someone else!
G.J. Griffiths The third book in the So What! series of novels and a kids sci-fi book.
G.J. Griffiths Write about stuff you know to begin with and keep on writing and reading your favourite authors, until you think you have found "your voice" for your characters.
G.J. Griffiths The freedom that one feels about creating something, such as characters, situations etc, that another person may find interesting, annoying or even controversial enough to have an opinion about. It is a bonus if they want to read your book to the end, and even if they like it enough to want you to write another book for their enjoyment.
G.J. Griffiths I read through the text of what I wrote the day/week before. Generally I usually find something there that I consider I could/should improve or even delete completely. This always tempts me to take up the story from there and continue in a similar or wildly difficult vein.
